Alicia Brightwell continued her recent scoring tear as the #3 Arizona State University defeated No. 19 Pacific, 11-6, on Sunday in Stockton, Calif.

Brightwell had four goals for the Sun Devils (16-4, 3-1 MPSF) who matched their best start through 20 games in school history with the victory.  The senior out of Australia scored once in each quarter as ASU won its fourth-straight game.

The third-ranked Arizona State University water polo team recovered from a tough loss to No. 1 USC, March 10, with two routs in Bakersfield, Calif., on Sunday to wrap up an eventful weekend of competition. 

The Sun Devils (14-4, 2-1 MPSF) dominated CSU Bakersfield, 15-8, in the first conference duel against the Roadrunners in their inaugural season of MPSF action before handling CSU Monterey Bay, 15-3.

Some athletes are born, some are made, and some refuse to acknowledge they are either – they just keep working.

Sun Devil water polo player Gao Ao is one of the latter. The sophomore attacker has been to the very edges of the earth mentally, physically, figuratively, and literally and has managed to hone her craft in the process.

But she simply states her accomplishments as if they aren't actually life-changing events that most athletes dream about – like being an Olympian.

The No. 5 Arizona State University will take part in the third tournament of the season, and the largest one thus far as the squad heads to Irvine, Calif., for the UCI Invitational, Feb. 22-23. The Sun Devils (9-1) will open the competition against No. 15 CSU Northridge at at 12:45 p.m., Feb. 22, at the Corona Del Mar Pool. Depending on the results of that contest, ASU will compete again at either 4:30 or 5:45 p.m. later that evening.

The No. 5 Arizona State University water polo team finished as the runners-up on Feb. 10, as the team wrapped up competition at the UCSD Triton Invitational in San Diego.

ASU won a dramatic sudden overtime matchup against No. 6 UC Irvine to advance to Sunday evening's final, where the team fell to No. 2 USC, 13-6.

Former Arizona State University water polo standout Mariam Salloum has signed with the professional water polo club Volturno S.C., it has been announced.

Salloum, a native a Berlin, Germany, will join the Italian Club in January and the season will run from Jan. 7 to July 4.  Volturno is a seven-time Italian national championship club and is coached by Salvatore Napolitano.  The team competes in the division just below Italy’s top flight of teams.

The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPA) has released its annual All-America teams and three Arizona State University student-athletes were honored – including a first-team honor for Alicia Brightwell – on Monday, the ACWPA has announced.
