Fifth-year Sun Devil athlete Chelsea Cassulo set a new school record for the Hammer Throw at last weekend's ASU Invitational meet – her outdoor debut for the Sun Devils following a transfer from University of Nevada-Las Vegas.

Cassulo has been the named National Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track and Field And Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Arizona State University track and field teams wrapped up the first weekend of the 2013 outdoor season on March 16, competing at home for the first time this season at the Baldy Castillo Invitational at Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe, Ariz.

A week removed from the NCAA Indoor Championships, the Sun Devils used Saturday's competition as more of a tune-up to the long outdoor season than anything else many student-athletes didn't compete or competed in events outside their normal ones. Nevertheless, impressive performances were abundant throughout the day.

With just four conference awards available each year for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation indoor campaign, winning just one is quite the achievement. But that's not enough for the Arizona State University track and field teams.

The Arizona State University track and field teams will get the indoor championships season underway this weekend as the squad heads north to compete in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Championships beginning Friday, Feb. 22 in Seattle, Wash.  The No. 13 ASU men will be looking to defend their 2012 MPSF title this weekend after winning the event for the first time in school history last year. The men's 131.5 total points last season and 50-point margin of victory were both the highest the meet had seen since the annual event moved to Seattle a decade ago.

Derick Hinch became just the second Sun Devil in school history to clear 18 feet indoors in the pole vault as the Arizona State track and field teams wrapped up another productive weekend of competition at the Mountain T's Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Entering the weekend, Arizona State University head track and field coach Greg Kraft said that the team would approach the 2013 season opener more as a test of the squad’s early season fitness than anything else.

If Saturday’s competition at the Lumberjack Team Challenge was any indication, the team fitness level is just fine as the men and women swept the competition, despite not competing with a full team on Jan. 12 in Flagstaff, Ariz.

Sophomore Shelby Houlihan wrapped up the 2012 cross country season for Arizona State University, earning the first All-America honors of her career with a 31st-place finish at the NCAA Championships in Louisville, Ky.

Ten members of the Arizona State University cross team team have earned Pac-12 Conference All-Academic honors, conference commissioner Larry Scott announced, Nov. 15. 

The Arizona State men posted four First-Team All-Academic selections, making up 40 percent of the Pac-12 First Team – two more than Stanford, who had the second-highest tally with two.

Arizona State University track and field and cross country standout Nick Happe was named the Pac-12 Men’s Cross Country Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the Conference office announced on Saturday at the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships.

The award, which is presented in each of the 22 sports the Conference sponsors, was established to honor collegiate student-athletes that are standouts both academically and in their sports discipline.
