Sun Devil Sizzle returns for the second time this semester to get ASU students ready for upcoming athletic events.

The event will celebrate the kickoff to baseball and softball season, as well as encourage students to attend the last home basketball game against University of Washington.

Wear gold and arrive early to Civic Space Park and the new Student Center at the Post Office for the last Sun Devil Sizzle of the semester, set for 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Feb. 21.

Fireworks erupt and down on the sidelines, a mascot in maroon powers through a set of seven pushups in celebration of Arizona State’s touchdown. The crowd rejoices, returning his enthusiasm with hands in the shape of pitchforks thrust in the air.

It's easy for an athlete to focus solely on their sport. But at Arizona State University, the athletes focus on their futures as well. Since 2000, ASU has produced 62 Academic All-Americans, which ranks seventh highest in Division I sports and second in the Pac-12.

Sun Devil student-athletes have surpassed a monumental milestone by recording a 3.01 GPA for the Fall 2012 semester, the highest ever in history. They've also increased their cumulative GPA to a 3.01.

The Learfield Director's Cup Fall 2012 Standings were released this past week and ASU sits in 58th place with 95 points.

At this same time last year, the Sun Devils were in 131st place with 37 points. That's almost a 300 percent improvement in 12 months.  

Football finished in 26th place to contribute 45 points, and volleyball and women's soccer each brought in 25 points with 33rd place finishes.

Arizona State University and Sun Devil Athletics proudly announces that 24 student-athletes will graduate with their undergraduate degrees this week as part of fall commencement ceremonies.

Five student-athletes graduated with honors: Two Summa Cum Laude (3.80 to 4.00 GPA), one Magna Cum Laude (3.60 to 3.79 GPA) and two Cum Laude (3.40 to 3.59 GPA).

Four student-athletes graduated in less than four years and one is a Barrett, the Honors College graduate.

The Sun Devil Marching Band will be presenting their annual “Pass In Review” concert on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m. in Wells Fargo Arena.

The concert, a staple of the Sun Devil Marching Band’s tradition, will feature all of the music performed by the band during the 2012 football season along with a special Christmas surprise performance. Admission is free to the public.

Inside the Higher Education Amendments of 1972, which President Nixon signed into law, was a small but significant line – just 37 words known as Title IX – that for the first time in history prohibited sex discrimination in education and athletics.

Cross Country: Shelby Houlihan clocked ASU’s fastest ever 6k, beating the previous record holder, Amy Hastings (the Olympian). The team now heads to the PAC-12 championships in Cali on Oct. 27.
