Third ranked Arizona State softball (16-0) needed a walk-off hit to escape Portland State, 4-3, Feb. 24. The teams played in unkind weather, with winds gusting up to 30 miles per hour.

Remaining undefeated through two weekends of tournaments at Farrington Stadium, the Arizona State softball team (12-0) buried the Minnesota Gophers 8-0 in five innings, Feb. 17.

Dallas Escobedo was dealing from the start, retiring Minnesota's (3-6) first two batters of the game, bumping her season total to 71. The ace would finish the game with nine strikeouts in the one-hit mercy rule shutout. Escobedo, now 8-0, has 78 strikeouts through 45.2 innings this year.

Completing a perfect 7-0 weekend, No. 4 softball solidified its newcomers are the real deal. On Feb. 10, Arizona State took down Bradley 3-0 and followed with a no-hitter against No. 6 Boise State, 10-0, to start the season on a streak.

The Sun Devils' 7-0 weekend is the program's best start dating back to 2007 when ASU won its first 15 games in head coach Clint Myers' second season at the helm.

A freshman from the fall of 2008 who heard Pat Tillman's mom speak to Sun Devil freshman student-athletes at orientation weekend took what she said to heart.

Recent graduate and former Sun Devil softball student-athlete Hillary Bach was recognized as the Pac-12 Conference Woman of the Year as announced by conference officials, Aug. 6.

Amber Freeman of the Arizona State softball team was named to the Women's College World Series All-Tournament team on Wednesday after the conclusion of the 2012 season, which saw Alabama take the national title.

This is Freeman's third award for the 2012 season, which saw her also named Pac-12 All-Conference Honorable Mention and to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team.

Arizona State softball moved past the Oregon Ducks, 3-1, in the opening round of the Women's College World Series, May 31. The Sun Devils will play Alabama at 6:30 p.m. PT/8:30 p.m. CT, June 1, in the sixth game of the WCWS.

Arizona State (52-9) goes on to play Alabama (56-7) at 6:30 p.m. PT, June 1, in the winners bracket after defeating Oregon (44-17) with a score of 3-1. The Sun Devils are on the hunt to become the third softball program ever to win back-to-back national championships.
