Picking up where it left off Saturday night against Sacramento State, the Arizona State men's basketball team came out on fire from the field. Unlike against Sacramento State, though, Hartford also came out hitting shots, putting pressure on the home team early and often to take advantage of their home court presence. ASU lived up to the challenge, improving their record to 7-1 as they took down Hartford 71-63, Nov. 5, from Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz.

The Sun Devils scored 27 points in the first half against Arkansas-Pine Bluff Wednesday night. Saturday night they surpassed that with 7:22 to go in the first period.

Shot after shot rained in for Arizona State against Sacramento State at Wells Fargo Arena, who also came into Saturday's tilt with ASU sharing a 5-1 record. The Hornets could not keep up with the Devils, though, who improved to 6-1 on the season with their 90-70 victory.

After a slow first half where ASU clearly struggled to get their offense on track, the Sun Devils bounced back in a dominant way in the second half, going on to beat the Golden Lions of Arkansas-Pine Bluff 67-54, Dec. 28, from Wells Fargo Arena.

Jahii Carson became just the fourth Sun Devil freshman to score 30 -- and the first to do it away from Tempe -- but it wasn't enough as Creighton topped the Sun Devils 87-73 in Las Vegas Saturday.

Carson and Carrick Felix (17 points) were both named to the All-Tournament team. ASU fell behind 27-9 in the first half but battled back and cut the deficit to six late in the game.

The first two games of the season for the Sun Devils included fast break play, some high flying bodies, but most importantly, a lot of baskets. The Sun Devils of Tuesday night, however, were unable to match the same style of play as a more fundamentally sound team in Cornell was in town. ASU refused to let that hinder them, though, as they escaped Wells Fargo Arena with a 64-53 victory over Big Red and a 3-0 record.

"I think it's been a great start for us--good momentum. I think we've gotten out of the gates exactly the way we wanted to," Coach Sendek said.
